AH-1G Huey Cobra: Vào VN tháng 9/1967

The AH-1G entered the War in September 1967 an was also known under the nickname "Snake". Interesting is that it first was designated as UH-1G because it was build up on the UH-1 series but that was quickly changed to AH-1G for obvious reasons. This is also the reason why there is actually no G, J or any other model of the UH-1 with the same model letter then an AH-1. In fact the Cobra can be considered as a part of the big "Iroquoise" family.
It was generally equipped with the M28 Armament Subsystem. This system was a twin mount chin-turret which normally carried a M134 7.62mm minigun and a M129 40mm grenade launcher.

Some crews weren't satisfied with the aiming/shooting characteristics of the M129 grenade launcher and changed the loadout to two M134 miniguns.

The Cobra could be fitted with various wing-mounted weapon-systems like the four M200 19-tube rocket launchers for 2.75 inch rockets.

Two M200 19-tube and two M158 seven-tube rocket launchers.
AH-1J Sea Cobra: Vào VN tháng 3/1971
The AH-1J was only used by the USMC and entered combat in March 1971. Besides an engine and some other improvements the main change was the new three barrel XM-197 20mm mounted in the nose-turret.
